Resumo:
It establishes a relationship between art, architecture and the city, taking as object the works
of t’e brazilian artist Tarsila do Amaral produced in ’ers Pau-Brasil phase (1924-1928). It
starts from the hypothesis that her works can allow us to associate her city figurations with
the social, political, economic, urban and architectural contexts of his time of production. It
aims to understand the relationship between art, architecture and urbanism in the works of
Tarsila do Amaral produced in t’e Pau-Brasil p’ase. For t’is, t’roug’out t’e work, it will:
a) investigate the modern movement and its repercussions in the fields of plastic arts and
architecture and urbanism, initially identifying at an international level; b) understand the
Brazilian context during the 20's and its relationship with modernization; c) enter into the
biographical experiences of Tarsila do Amaral, looking for its relationship with her
productions; d) connect the representations of architecture and the city in the work of Tarsila
do Amaral with the context of its production time, emphasizing the 1920s, specifically during
its Pau-Brasil p’ase. Taking as a methodological guideline the didactics developed by Fayga
Ostrower in her book Universos da Arte (2013), it focuses on the relationship between the
artists experience and t’e context in w’ic’ ’e was inserted and ’ow t’is appear in his work.
In Tarsila do Amaral it is possible to perceive this intersection from her landscape paintings,
and it was identified how they communicated the urban and architectural history of the
portrayed place, being explored here: São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais. Her life
and work are reflections of the essence of the 20s.
