Resumo:
The need to develop cities capable of meeting citizens' demands has become of great
importance in urban management studies. The concept of mobility has been discussed from
the perspective of walkability, seeking to understand how the population frequents urban and
public spaces. The present work aims to analyze walkability conditions from the perspective
of pedestrians in the Liberdade neighborhood in Campina Grande - PB. For this purpose, the
model proposed by Medeiros and Vasconcelos (2021) was used through a semi-structured
script applied to the residents of the analyzed neighborhood. Therefore, the research is classified as qualitative, using the content analysis of the respondent's answers as a technique.
It was observed that the walkability conditions are concentrated in an unsatisfactory situation.
Pedestrians say the Liberdade neighborhood needs more significant investments to carry out a
safe and inclusive movement. The main problems reported by the interviewees were the
occurrence of uneven sidewalks and holes, lack of accessibility and inclusion, and
precariousness in terms of public safety. The research provided a better understanding from
the point of view of pedestrians, in addition to indicating the points of possible improvements
for the municipal public power of the city of Campina Grande in decision-making, thus
stimulating inspections by the territory and raising awareness people of the importance of
their participation in urban planning.
