Mimosa ophthalmocentra Mart. ex Benth. belonging to the Fabaceae family, is easily found in the Caatinga Biome and has great economic importance due to its energy potential. However, there are still few studies related to the physiological quality of its seeds, so studies that promote the knowledge of the biological cycle of native species are considered of great importance, as they will allow a better understanding of how they behave. Therefore, the objective of the research was to study the physiological quality and storage of seeds of jurema de imbira (Mimosa ophthalmocentra Mart. ex Benth), previously selected in the region of Cariri Paraibano. The work was carried out at the Laboratory of Ecology and Botany and at the Laboratory of Plant Anatophysiology (CDSA/UFCG). The seeds were collected from matrices located in the city of Sumé-PB and taken to the laboratory, where they were homogenized, and packed in different packages (Kraft type paper bags and plastic packaging) and stored in laboratory environments (without temperature control). and relative air humidity) and frezzer (controlled temperature and humidity conditions), for a period of seven months. In each month of storage, the following parameters were evaluated: water content, emergence, emergence speed index, length and dry mass of seedlings. Thus, it was possible to verify that, during storage, the environments and packaging influenced the decrease in seed vigor, where the reduction was more pronounced when the seeds were packed in paper packaging in a laboratory environment, increasing the speed of their deterioration. When the seeds were packed in plastic packaging (PET) in a controlled environment of humidity and temperature, a better behavior of their viability was observed. Thus, the best condition for seed conservation was obtained in plastic packaging and in a freezer environment for a period of 180 days.
