Resumo:
Geographic information systems have become crucial in responding to epidemics or
mapping the spread of disease. This is the case of what happened during the Covid-
19 pandemic. Geoprocessing was used to map the spread of the new coronavirus
across the world, as well as to guide decision making. In this context, this work aimed
to analyze vulnerabilities to the expansion of COVID-19 in Paraíba from the territorial
dimension (2020-2021). Documentary research, in the first quantitative stage, in the
second qualitative stage, with an analysis from the axes, cases and deaths by COVID-
19, comorbidities and risk group, health infrastructure, demographic and age profile,
market axis and income, housing, sanitary infrastructure and social indicators. The
main results achieved were: the spread of Covid-19 in the state, starting with the capital
João Pessoa, and soon after by the municipalities with a greater population density,
and that people with comorbidities or who were included in the risk group died in
greater numbers. the amount. It should be noted that after vaccines, a rate of decrease
in the numbers of deaths and hospitalizations is scientifically proven. It is understood
that there were several negligences by the federal government in dealing with the
public health crisis, with delusional, bizarre, anachronistic and counterproductive
actions. And the non-cooperation on the part of people sympathetic to the federal
government, who refused to wear a mask, comply with social isolation, get vaccinated,
or any other action to prevent the spread of the virus, made it difficult for health
professionals and researchers to return their respective works.
