Resumo:
The continuous search for ways to try to inhibit the environmental impacts on our planet has become
something essential in modern society, organizations whether public or private
seek alternatives or are equated by laws and guidelines that pay attention to this type of
practice. On August 2, 2010, Law 12,305 was enacted, establishing the Policy
Solid Waste National Institute (PNRS), storing guidelines and actions aimed at the correct
solid waste management, where the Federal Government, States and Municipalities act as
responsible forming their action plans. This work aimed to evaluate the
urban solid waste (MSW) management practices in the city of Jericho-PB, having as
premise the guidelines and goals established by the PNRS. This research was built from
qualitative approach, classified as exploratory and descriptive through the
application of interviews, visits and systematic observations. Interviews were applied with
semi-structured questionnaires, composed of open questions based on the objectives and
principles adopted by the PNRS, where it showed that the studied Municipality still faces
challenges and obstacles to more efficient management.
