“Quem vigia os vigilantes?”: uma análise das representações da guerra fria na HQ Watchmen de Alan Moore.

Abstract

This work has as main objective to analyze the twelve volumes of history in “Watchmen” comics by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons within the context of the Cold War, showing how the political-ideological conflict between the USA and the USSR is represented in the end of the 1980s, taking into account the speeches and actions of the characters and their representations inside the work. The comic is considered one of the greatest works of the genre, the first being the win a Hugo award, science fiction award reserved for traditional literature and the only comic to make the list of the 100 most important novels of the 20th century. For this, excerpts of the work were selected to be analyzed according to the researched bibliography, using the New Cultural History and the concept of “representation” by Roger Chartier as a basis for discussing the relationship between history and history in comics, in addition to Edward Thompson's concept of "exterminism" to debate the of tension and the possible nuclear apocalypse caused by the war between the powers.
