Abstract

Reading is being progressively inserted in the daily life of Brazilians, whether through digital or physical books, which contributes to mentally stimulate the population, especially the elderly, who suffer from the loss of their cognition. Linking it to the opportunity to make this moment more pleasant and comfortable for the elderly (growing population in the country), the development of a support to help and to promote affective memory was started. For this, the design method of Horst Rittel (adapted) was used, which involves the definition of the problem, the collection and analysis of information, followed by the development and evaluation of solutions, ending with tests and implementations of the chosen alternative. The result was the creation of a compact and lightweight standing support that can be easily transported/ stored, and that optimizes reading time through functional page fasteners, storage compartments for extra accessories, a leveling device (for uneven surfaces) and the support inclination levels that were defined considering the postural comfort of the audience. In conclusion, the project showed how affective memory influences the choice of an artifact, and how it is capable of generating an involvement/attachment to the object in the individual, making the user-product relationship more unique, and expanding the consumer’s purchase intention.
