The climatic conditions of the semiarid region is a challenge for agricultural production,
especially for family farmers who, in addition to climatic factors, suffer from a lack of
knowledge and technology for better production performance. Another water-related
problem found in the region is the lack of water reservoirs, high evaporation from existing
reservoirs, ineffective storage and loss of water as irrigation systems are ineffective,
making agriculture unsustainable. Family farmers are responsible for part of the vegetable
production in the region, usually close to the urban perimeter of the municipalities.
Lettuce is a typical vegetable of temperate regions, which makes its production even more
challenging in the semiarid region. However, what was presented, this study aimed to
observe and analyze the production of curly lettuce of the "Elba" type under family
farming conditions and later, an experiment was carried out with the use of technology to
determine the water balance of the culture with the support of from a soil moisture probe.
In addition to the use of the probe, a drone coupled as an infrared camera was used to
determine vegetation indices. For productivity, in both moments simulations were made
to compare with the field results through the AquaCrop model. Both the model and the
field result showed an excessive use of water in the productivity of family farming, which
was proven in the experiment, however, the productivity of family farming was higher,
which indicates that the other parameters are responsible for better results, such as
temperature and humidity. air relative
