Résumé:
We proposed in this paper to analyze the political and social context of urban transformations
in the city of Taperoá-PB in the first decades of the twentieth century in order to realize how
such interference greatly influenced the territorialization hygienic said spaces in the suburban
neighborhood called perimeter Liberdade, current Alto da Conceição. In this, they were
allocated between 1920 and 1930 spaces considered by the bourgeois speech as morally in
appropriate and hygienic dirty, such as cemetery, prostitution and hospital. On the other hand,
we conducted study front ace timid public initiatives of local and state executive between the
decades from 1940 to 1970, with regard to urban improvements that region. Text looks us
even in sources that allowed us to see daily evidence of the popular residents in that area,
especially prostitute sand individuals who were involved in crimes. In this sense, we realize
how social practices such historical subjects developed over the years, allowed the
construction of stereotypes, prejudices and negative social representations around the
neighborhood. Finally, we conducted a study around the merriment of Cambindas Novas of
Taperoá, analyzing this centuries-old folk manifestation through the prism of ethnic identity
construction and spatial belonging.
