A cultura popular nas obras de Bruegel: um retrato das pequenas aldeias rurais do século XVI.

Abstract

This research provides a glimpse into the diverse cultural manifestations in the works of Pieter Bruegel. Considering the festival carnival, the images of the drink, the banquet, the jokes, the party, the artist created a rich narrative painting, documenting the customs of the time, becoming one of the most representative painters of the Flemish Cinquecento (1500-1599) Renaissance. He was noted for being inspired by the middle Ages. We know that the iconographic universe is vast and covers numerous types of images and loads of techniques used for their production. We chose to work not with the whole universe of images, but with the paintings of popular culture in his works. These images are historically constructed and linked with other information and interpretations became true visual certificates of happened and the past. This bibliographic body subsidized our reading about the paintings, produced by our Renaissance painter and contributed to a higher location of the popular culture of the sixteenth century in the region of the Netherlands, lending in each of its features works from the simple country people. Therefore, from the twentieth century iconographic document as documentary source has contributed to a better understanding of historical societies.
