Resumo:
This argumentative paper deals with the Cologne San Pedro Pindaré- Maranhão in
1840-1860- indigenous Cologne place of "civilization and catechesis" for the margin of
indigenous Pindaré river, to the detriment of the overall project civilization. Was an
Indian Colony, proposal and findada by the Indian policy of Maranhão project in the
nineteenth century, used as a model for other colonies of Indians who emerged after the
Cologne St. Peter's Pindaré. Main objective to build these indigenous colonies ended up
on the idea: when the colonized indigenous, would no longer practice their vivendi
modes, and thus forget their indianidades, occurring the "sociocultural disappearance"
of these populations. The colony was located on the banks of Pindaré river, is one of the
main tributaries of Maranhão, responsible for feeding the indigenous people of this
town, it was an uninterrupted region mills buildings. According to the compiled sources,
the idea ended by Indian policy of this century to the creation of the Colony St. Peter's
Pindaré, was to facilitate the navigation of the river Pindaré, since the Guajajara Indians,
inhabitants on the banks of that river, made access and transit of non-indigenous very
risky because attacked vessels. In seeking to overcome such a situation, the then
President of the Province, the Marquis de Caxias, ordered that fundassem a Colony right
of this river with the name, São Pedro do Pindaré, under the orders of the Director
Lieutenant Colonel Luis Fernando Ferreira. Documents describing on this Colony,
match the Indians Directory: crafts are exchanged between directors of Cologne and the
presidents of the Province of presidents and directories reports that administered the
colony São Pedro do Pindaré. In addition to maps and laws of this period. The chosen
time frame was due to the existing documentary variety. We aimed from the enrolled
and theoretical and methodological discussions historical sources to question the
discourse on indigenous and indigenous policies, deconstructing descriptions of local
history, since they have the Guajajara Indians as mere spectators of the stories of interethnic
contacts, which, on the contrary, we observe the documentation consulted to date,
the various indigenous actions, constructed assemblages before the settlers, the
occurrence of conflicts, accommodations and negotiations. We also seek to revisit the
documentation the daily lives of Guajajara, in order to know their cultural practices,
religious and political. The reflections presented here looking for evidence, especially
the importance of place Indium study in the history of Brazil, sharing their past and rereading
his memoirs that have been documented in writing the other.
