Abstract:
The political and social scenario that the Brazilian Northeast Semiarid and the world were experiencing in the 1990s when Neoliberalism provoked negative reflexes. With the industrialization of the country, the Brazilian semi-arid region began to suffer even more from the consequences of the drought, so the population of São Diogo - PB found themselves with no way out for the misery that plagued them; It was no longer possible to make a living from agriculture alone, it was when they decided to trace new paths, in addition to agriculture, they sought a way out in the crediário of lamps and appliances, thus starting to integrate two autonomous activities; both activities were successful and it is the source of income for most residents from 1990 to the present day. The present work aims to research and historically conceptualize this period of drought experienced by these sertanejos, and at the same time the reality of the country politically and economically. The research will be carried out through questionnaires where the protagonists of this conjuncture will narrate their own story. Subsequently, analyzes were carried out based on scientific studies, within the reflection, work
as a category and its consequences will also be addressed, with an emphasis on autonomous work. The results obtained in the social research carried out served as a basis for the theoretical construction of the present work, in addition to providing narratives.
