Resumen:
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the use of cordel literature as a didactic
resource to treat ethnic-racial relations in the teaching of History in accordance with Law
11.645 / 2008. Currently, one of the challenges of classroom teachers is to attract the attention
and participation of students in history classes, either because they are not in the habit of
reading or because they find it difficult to interpret / understand the texts of the textbook or
supplementary texts. Another important issue is the instigation of putting into practice the
knowledge acquired in the university, stimulating research and not merely the transmission of
knowledge. However, teachers should adopt several educational practices, which should also
consider the proposals expressed in the curricula of the discipline. Thus, cordel literature fits
into the curriculum debate and educational practices. The sources used are pamphlets of the
economist and poet Medeiros Braga and the twister Manoel Monteiro da Silva. In this way,
the intention is to enable students to contact a source of a nature different from that found in
textbooks, which enables the student to practice reading, since the leaflets bring a simple and
easy to understand language. The use of the string allows a greater participation of the
students in the classes, using the method of collective reading, and the stimulus to the research, analyzing the speeches of the poets in front of the events, and the encouragement of
the production of cords by the students, habituating beyond the practice of reading, also
writing and rewriting. Therefore, the cordel literature can configure an alternative language
for the teaching of History in the debate of ethnic-racial relations.
