Abstract:
This article makes a theoretical-methodological approach on how to use
cinematographic works as teaching tools in the teaching of History in basic
education, involving themes related to ethnic-racial education. With the purpose of
problematizing suggestions that can be used by teachers in the application of films
as pedagogical mechanisms. For this purpose, bibliographical reviews were carried
out together with an analysis of the film "Do the Right Thing" (1989) by the American
filmmaker Spike Lee, presenting suggestions on how best to use specific scenes of
the film analyzed within the school context. It was noticed through the questions raised in this article that there is a multitude of applications for film works in the
classroom, and that can be an interesting way to bring to the center of the debate in
the school context thematic axes directed to the ethnic-racial question. The points
presented in this paper are aimed at opening up the possibilities for teachers to use,
cinema as a tool to create empathy in the pupil with the ethnic-racial discussions in
their daily lives.
