Religiosíty, as a theme in historical studies has long been sidelined, silenced and denied by historians. This work aims to alleyiáte some of this disinterestedness pn the part of Brazilian historians. Religion is a fertiie field for historical research. The eampaign of persecution the protestant in Cariri performed primarily in the actions of violence by Catholics against Protestants. The action by the Church was intended to ban the protesters from the region and reaffirm their place in society.
