Résumé:
The objective of this work is to outline some considerations about the book "Cain"
by José Saramago. In this work, the author deals with the early books of the Bible,
telling stories ranging from Eden to the flood. He focus on Cain’s trip, who carries
a mark given by God, which protects him it from human adversities. Saramago
proposes reinventing the official story told by the Bible, questioning it as a "real"
thing, contributing to literary studies concerning the boundaries between history
and fiction. More specifically, this paper will be structured in the discussion of the
relationship between history and fiction and will support theoretical authors as
Linda Hutcheon (about historiographic metafiction), Benedito Nunes, Hayden
White and Maria Teresa de Freitas (on the historical discourse and fictional).
