Abstract:
Humans need to recognize the environment as a way to survive, become aware and preserve the condom to ensure the survival of future generations. Over the years, the problem has been evolving and gaining more space for discussions and debates, society and government, in addition to extending to the business environment, the great impact on the environment through its activities. The theme of sustainable development addresses the idea of maintaining the balance on three spheres: economic, social and environmental. Agriculture is a tool that can assist in the development of a particular region, which aims to reduce poverty and hunger, as well as increase productivity, profitability and sustainability. In this context, there is family farming, made up of members who work with their families, becoming a broad and differentiated segment, where it needs actions that aim to strengthen their conditions, encouraging their production, guaranteeing quality food and income generation for these families. In addition, it is important the idea to produce in a sustainable way, considering the economic, social and environmental dimensions. Therefore, one of the fundamental bases for the sustainable development of the agricultural activities, since they are the fundamental base for the sustainable development of the country.The present survey have a qualitative and quantitative approach, using indicators to formulate indexies that quantify and measure the reality of a population, bringing data on sustainability, as well as social data to identify the reality of these producers. It was characterized as a case study, carried out with the participants of the family farming, that participates of the National School Feeding Program (NSFP). The sample includes 30 familiar farming. As a result, the Quality of Life Index has presented with high values, representing 37% of the Sustainability Index, followed by the social and environmental capital indexes, represented by 32%. Finally, found the Sustainability Index, in the value of 0.5993, considered an average level. In this way, the results achieved demonstrated a level of sustainability considered good, but need improvements, mainly in the environmental aspect, aiming at more sustainable practices.
