Resumo:
Aimed to identify the medicinal effects of the plant Bauhinia forficata, porpularly known as "paw of cow" about diabetes mellitus. It is an integrative review of the literature, the research method used in scope of evidence-based practice. The research was done through publications available in PUBMED and in Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), the main journal was the Journal of Ethnopharmacology. A total of 45 articles were selected, of which 27 were on the BVS platform and 18 on PUBMED. The findings show that the articles were more widely distributed in the Medical Publisher databases and in the Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature, published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology, predominantly in the years 2018 and 2012. As regards the effects, hypoglycemic and antioxidant actions were highlighted. Bauhinia Forficata as adjuvant treatment in glycemic control is effective because of its hypoglycemic action without side effects, improving the quality of life in diabetic patients. However, future research is needed to better understand its hypoglycaemic potential, be it with natural product or herbal medicine.
