In a competitive scenario, in which continuous improvement is a highlight in organizations, investing in quality management is crucial for agroindustries, in which it directly interferes with the organization's results, through cost reduction and rework. Thus, this study aimed to identify and propose solutions to the problem in producing cotton lint bales in a cotton processing unit (UBA). Within six months, on-site visits were carried out with the aim of to collect data, understand the production process and exchangeh employees through informal dialogues. According to the analysis of the data and application of quality tools, the results indicated that out of 77.758 bales of lint produced in the 2021/2022 harvest, 31.862 bales are underweight, totaling 41% of total production, 28.493 bales are overweight, totaling 36,6% of total production and only 17.403 are up to standards, amounting to 22,4% of total production. Therefore, it was evident that 77,6% of the total production consists of non-compliant bales according to the specification limits, in addition to not having a standardization in production between shifts and months, reflecting in financial losses. Soon, the root causes for the large production of noncompliant bales were identified, which were illustrated in the Ishikawa Diagram, and then an action plan was created using the 5W2H tool to try to remedy or reduce the problem.
