Abstract:
Solid waste management is a challenge in today's society. For a long time, the
lack of adequate solid waste management has contributed negatively to the worsening of the
planet's environmental conditions, which has also been greatly affected by the unbridled use
of natural resources. In the wood and furniture sector, the management of waste generated
from productive activities still needs to be consolidated, with the expansion of Reverse
Logistics channels. Based on these considerations, this work seeks to describe the way of
managing solid waste generated in two companies in the wood and furniture sector that are
installed in the city of Campina Grande-PB. The work is of the descriptive and case study
type. The literature review highlighted legal aspects of waste management and verified the
potential use of reverse logistics channels in this sector. The main results refer to the
identification of the types of waste generated in each of the studied companies, and the way of
treating these wastes in the studied companies. Thus, the main residue produced was wood
dust, which, to a large extent, is destined for reuse in other sectors, such as poultry farming.
The managers of these companies, despite destining a large part of their waste, need to know
more about the importance of proper management of solid waste, in order to better exercise
their social and environmental responsibility.
