Resumo:
Discussions on urban mobility have grown in recent years, which is considered a key issue in
the context of urban management, and walkability, which refers to the quality and conditions
of the place for pedestrians to move around, has been receiving more and more attention,
becoming object of study in different locations. In Brazil, although the most used means of
transportation in cities is on foot and given the evident importance of walkability in city
planning, pedestrian mobility conditions in most Brazilian cities are still inadequate. The
objective of this study is to evaluate the walkability conditions in the city of Queimadas, in the
state of Paraíba, from the perspective of pedestrians. In view of this, the main street of the city
of Queimadas was used as a study locus to assess walkability conditions through the view of
walkers. For that, the model proposed by Medeiros and Vasconcelos (2021) was used, which
was applied and analyzed through interviews and content analysis. The interviews revealed an
overall insufficient walkability scenario in the study site, with Public Safety, Mobility and
Environment being the dimensions that most need attention from the public authorities from
the point of view of the pedestrians who participated in the research. The results raised provide
valuable information for the formulation of public actions aimed at better walkability conditions
in the analyzed section.
