Resumo:
In the processes of social, economic, cultural transformations and natural
phenomena, cities get changed, being built or not. In this process, modifying agents of urban
space interfere with the dynamics, following their own interests and wishes. About the study
of cities, the aim is to record experiences for cities with small populations defined for up to
50,000 inhabitants, the most part of Brazilian municipalities. This inaugural work seeks to
analyze the dynamics and spatial organization of the city of Pocinhos PB, reflecting on the
performance of urban space modeling agents. It is a spatial synthesis of the historic
records, since the beginning of the village in 1815, passing by the dismemberment of
Campina Grande in 1953 and arriving to the present time in 2023. Were founded three
process of city growing: Pocinhos Rural, where the economic cycle of cattle and cotton is
the protagonist, with the occupation of the wells margins; Pocinhos and the industry,
which is focused on the processing of its agricultural product, sisal, with the city's growth
driven by the allocation of companies, mainly on the city's margins; and post-sisal Pocinhos,
when the city grows at the end of the sisal cycle. It includes the main interventions of urban
programs aimed at building social housing, mainly in peripheral or risky areas, also pendular
displacement. Of the actors identified in the text, there is the role of the state as regulator and
real estate promoter, either in partnerships with landowners or offering social housing;
landowners, who also play the role of owners of the means of production in agricultural
cycles; The owners of the means of production, active mainly in the sisal cycle and
occupying the margins of the city; real estate developers, whether from the municipality itself
or from other cities; The social groups, which are organized to preserve the urban landscape
and the church, a new character that acts in different ways throughout the growth of the city.
