Abstract:
Edible mushrooms are important foods for human nutrition and provide antioxidant bioactive
components. Mushrooms of the genus Pleurotus are one of the most cultivated in the world
due to their ability to degrade common lignocellulosic substrates into agricultural waste.
However, substrate composition can change the mycochemical profile of secondary
metabolites of mushrooms and alter their biological properties. In this way, using mushrooms
of the P. djamor species that can be cultivated in agricultural residues of importance for the
state of Paraíba, such as banana leaves and sugarcane bagasse, aims to produce new dietary
sources through compounds that would be discarded in the environment. In this perspective,
this work aims to characterize the mycochemical profile, analyze and evaluate the antioxidant
potential of extracts of P. djamor mushrooms cultivated in substrates of banana leaves and
sugarcane bagasse. The extracts were produced with ethanol/water solution (70:30 v/v). The
composition of natural products of the extracts was carried out to detect total polyphenols and
flavonoids and finally, ABTS and DPPH assays was carried out to evaluate the antioxidant
activity of the extracts. The results were expressed in μM TE, μM AAE, μg EAG, μg EQ as
well as percentage of inhibition and IC50. The inhibition percentage of the ABTS test showed
a maximum value of 91.6% and the DPPH test a maximum value of 65.8%. The
concentrations of μM AAE and μM TE ranged from 3932.22 μM and 10297.4 μM
respectively. These results show that the use of agricultural residues for mushroom production
is a destination to be explored, as it favors the production of new dietary sources with
bioactive properties.
