Abstract:
Nursing is among the professions considered stressful, and nurses are directly affected
because they are inserted in a work environment with unfavorable characteristics that
influence health, work performance and conditioning to stress. In the context of coping with
covid-19, nursing professionals suffered physical and psychological injuries. The objective of
this work is to identify occupational stress factors in nursing professionals in times of a
pandemic. This is a cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, with a research setting
for health services located in a city in the interior of Paraíba. The research was developed
during the period from February to April 2022. The analysis of the collected data was
performed Microsoft Excel. The final sample consisted of 35 professionals, mostly composed
of female participants (91%). The highest percentage declared working on duty (57%). The
results indicate that the greatest sources of stress that professionals experienced during the
pandemic were the increase in work demand (77%), professional devaluation (71%) and
having to move away from the family so as not to contaminate them with the Covid-19 virus
(20%). In view of the results, it was identified that exposure to the virus and the fear of
contamination of oneself and family members linked to the increased demand for work and
professional devaluation put nursing professionals who work on the front line in the midst of
the coronavirus pandemic in stressful situations, which can generate psychological
impairment.
