Resumo:
Fibromyalgia is a rheumatological condition of unknown origin, which appears mainly in
skeletal muscles, predominantly in females. Usually the pains are accompanied by generalized
fatigue, sleep disturbance, among other symptoms. The aim of this study was to evaluate the
impact of diet on fibromyalgia symptoms. An integrative literature review was carried out, of
an eminently qualitative nature. Searches of relevant primary studies were carried out in virtual
libraries (Virtual Health Library - VHL that includes PubMed, SciELO and Google Scholar).
In this study, it was observed that nutritional strategies are important for the reduction and
control of the symptoms, through foods rich in antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds,
which showed positive results in relation to the symptoms of the syndrome, due to the
functional properties they present. Also being observed, improvement of symptoms through the
consumption of minerals, such as magnesium and calcium, arising from food. The
supplementation of ômega 3 and vitamina D stands out as promising strategies and being among
the most used supplements in these patients, due to their anti-inflammatory properties,
demonstrating efficacy in pain. Thus, healthy eating habits make a difference in individuals
affected by fibromyalgia. Food is considered a type of assertive non-pharmacological treatment,
promoting improvement in symptoms and promoting the quality of life of patients.
