Arte e totalitarismo: 1984 de Orwell sob o conceito de autonomia da arte de Adorno.

Abstract

The present work proposes a study on Orwell’s critique of totalitarianism, placing his world-renowed dystopian work, 1984, from the perspective of the concept of autonomy of the work of art proposed by Theodor W. Adorno. Shall be made, therefore, through Theodor W. Adorno’s thinking on art and an analysis of Orwell’s 1984, a bridge will be built between art, literature and totalitarianism with the aim of bringing to light the exercise of criticism of Totalitarian State, its domination, its manipulation and objectification of the individual and the barbarism present in the work of George Orwell, giving it a status of authentic work of art, still little discussed in investigations relating to the work, and a new visibility: the contribution to the studies of totalitarianism. This work used bibliographical analysis as methodology. The conclusion reached is that 1984 is the product of social work whose commitment is that of protest, as well as dystopia, the literary genre to which it belongs, intends to criticize the current order, emphasizing the negative trends of the present and directing them towards the future.
