O tempo do apocalipse: o fim do mundo, o medo e a guerra fria na Revista Watchmen (1986 - 1987).

Abstract

This work has as its theme the analysis of the Cold War in the Graphic Novell magazine, Watchmen, published by DC Comics between 1986 and 1987. In this sense, the research seeks to problematize the use of comics as a historical source, investigating how this publication contributes to the understanding of the Cold War as an event. The objective is to explain the linguistic resources mobilized by the artist Alan Moore in the work Watchmen. From a theoretical point of view, this work approaches the contributions of Cultural History, particularly in reflections on the importance of literary sources for historical research. The research focused on the twelve editions of the Graphic Novell magazine, Watchmen, seeking to understand the artistic trajectory of Alan Moore, the influences of the aesthetics of the comics of the 1980s on his work, also analyzing the graphic resources, the patterns of cores and the texts to highlight the author's perspective on events. For the analysis of the magazine Graphic Novell, Watchmen, the research promoted the dialogue between the historiography of the Cold War, literary studies and academic works that researched the relationship between history and comics. From there, we migrate to establishing a connection between the language present in the Watchmen comic and the various concepts thought by it, by other historians, linguists, sociologists and anthropologists.
