Resumo:
The hair fiber is exposed daily to several factors that cause harm to the strands. The main
causes of hair damage are the result of chemical procedures that affect the shaft at all its
extremities. This damage is caused by ultraviolet radiation, combing, brushing, excessive
heat from flat irons and hair dryers, straightening, bleaching, and painting, resulting in
damaged cuticles and deterioration of the cortex. Thus, hair cosmetics are of great
importance to reduce this damage, since they are developed in order to provide the
restructuring of damaged hair. In this context, the present work is based on a systematic
literature review that comprises a survey of researches that substantiate the importance of
the use of peptides in hair cosmetics. It also highlights the use of acetic acid as an organic
solvent in the synthesis of peptides for the composition of hair products. In this perspective,
this study presents a formulation design of a hair mask containing peptides derived from
reaction with acetic acid for chemically treated hair.
