Résumé:
Binge eating is a disordered eating disorder, commonly linked to anxiety, which
induces the individual to ingest considerably exaggerated amounts of food in a short
period of time, resulting in feelings of guilt, shame and even disgust. The present study
aimed to identify the influence of anxiety on binge eating through a literature review.
For data collection, searches were carried out in the PubMed, Scielo, google academic
and LILACS databases, using the combination of the following keywords in
Portuguese: “eating disorder and anxiety”, “binge eating and anxiety”, “compulsion
disorder”. eating and anxiety”, “binge eating and restrictive diets”, “fad diets and binge
eating”, in the same way, the above descriptors were searched in the English
language. Thus, original works carried out with human beings in the following
modalities were selected: articles, monographs, annals and dissertations on the
subject, published between the years 2017 to 2022. The results showed that binge
eating is directly related to cases of anxiety, so that the higher the level of anxiety, the
more frequent the episodes of binge eating. In addition, binge eating is also linked to
high body mass indexes, given that obese people demonstrate higher degrees of binge
eating, in addition to anxiety. Women and young people are the most vulnerable to the
development of the disorder, as they are groups that undergo major changes,
especially those linked to hormonal fluctuations. In addition, these are more exposed
to beliefs imposed by society regarding aesthetic standards. In order for the treatment
to be successful, it is necessary to value the humanized and multidisciplinary treatment
and of extreme importance the use of nutritional methods that avoid restriction, as in
the cases of behavioral nutrition that aims to improve the individual's relationship with
food, in a sustainable way over the long term. term, in order to improve their
relationship with food.
