Resumo:
Formed mostly by escaped African capives, of diverse cultures and origins, the quilombos
became a symbol of black resistance and batle against the oppressions and abuses
of the slave regime. Due to it’s historical and cultural importance, since the Federal Constitution
of 1988, the quilombola’s documents, sites, and historical reminiscences have
become Brazilian cultural heritage. Therefore, this research has as its theme the qualiicaion
of the built environment of quilombos, based on the case studs of the quilombola
community Caiana dos Crioulos. Its objecive is to develop an architectural drat project
of a cultural center for the quilombola community Caiana dos Crioulos. More speciically,
it aims to: (1) adapt the program needs to the sociocultural and collecive demands of the
community (funcion); (2) propose an architectural soluion integrated to the idenity of
the local built environment, whether natural or built (form) and (3) explore construcive
soluions suited to the local socioeconomic condiions and the community’s construcive
pracices (technical). For this, the development of the architectural project is supported
by a Post-Occupancy evaluaion (POE) of the exising built environment, in addiion to a
historical study of the site and the study of related projects. As a result, it is veriied that
the paricipaion of the community in the design process was essenial for the creaion of
an architectural proposal suited to the context in which it is inserted, being able to meet
the wishes and needs of the community.
