Resumen:
The objective of this work is to diagnose solid waste management in Basic Health Units (UBS)
in the municipality of Parelhas, in Rio Grande do Norte - RN. For that, a descriptive research
was carried out, with a quantitative approach, in 8 Basic Health Units in the municipality of
Parelhas/RN. Data collection was carried out in July 2022, through the application of a Roadmap for observing the management of waste from health services within the units,
prepared based on the Resolution of the Collegiate Board No. 222/2018 of the National Surveillance Agency Sanitary. Through the observations and application of the checklist, it was possible to identify the management of waste from groups A (Infectants), B (Chemicals), C
(Radioactive), D (Common) and E (Sharps). In all UBS, no group C residues were found. The packaging of these residues mostly occurs in a contradictory way to what the standard and
current legislation proposes. It was identified that the waste does not undergo any type of
treatment before temporary storage, and that all units have a third-party company for the collection and final disposal of Health Services Waste. However, it was not possible to obtain
information about the final disposal of waste by the company. It is concluded that the management of generated solid waste points to failures and inadequate management in various parts of management.
