Abstract:
Transsexuality is a political issue. A recurring theme in health debates, trans issues have
motivated Psi's practitioners to look for clinical practices capable of appeasing their suffering.
However, it is noted that the transsexual family still has little access to academic studies, as
well as to Queer studies. Considering that the family is one of the discursive institutions that
found the bodies and that the violence and aggression directed to the transsexual bodies often
come from family members, the present work discusses the process of elaboration of
transsexuality by the family of people considered transsexuals. In order to do so, a research was
carried out in the CAPES Theses database and the Virtual Health Library (VHL), a careful
reading of Kubler-Ross's works Sobre a morte e o morrer (2017), Luto e Melancolia (2010a),
of Freud, Trans-identidade (2017), of Interdonato, Mecanismos psiquicos del poder (2001), of
Butler, A reinvenção do corpo – sexualidade e gênero na experiência transexual (2014a), of
Berenice Bento, as well as the analysis of the work A força do querer (2017), novel written by
Glória Perez. The results revealed that (1) the transsexual character - Ivana - goes through a
moment of conflict with her own body image; (2) through the overcoming of melancholic
identification, Ivana can recognize herself in the social body, albeit as a deviant body; (3) the
overcoming of the melancholic experience triggers the beginning of the family grieving; and
(4) the crossing of mourning is seen as crucial to the significance of the loss of the object of
family love. Finally, it is expected that the present work will enable new research and
interventions in the field, in order to contribute to the creation of a corpus of knowledge capable
of subsidizing and increasing the visibility and the theoretical-practical discussion about the
transsexual experience and its affective, political and social relationships.
