Resumen:
The present study aims to characterize the profile of undergraduate students attending the
School of Psychology Service of the Federal University of Campina Grande - Campus I. The
main initial complaints brought by them were investigated in order to provide relevant
information about their needs, besides subsidizing important information about the incidence
of psychic suffering among undergraduates. The research was carried out by means of the
survey and analysis of sociodemographic variables cataloged in the screening sheets
contained in the documentary collection of the institution, covering the period from
November 2014 (beginning of operation of said Service) to December 2017. It was possible
to identify that the greater frequency is for women, aged between 20 and 29 years; presenting
complaints regarding academic and (or) professional life; relationship problems; anxiety and
mood disorders; and suicidal ideation; In addition, the predominant search is characterized as
spontaneous. This survey is indispensable for the understanding of the type of psychic
suffering that has affected the students, as well as to think about appropriate intervention
strategies for this public.
