Resumo:
The present work aims to analyze the play “Eles Não Usam Black-tie” (1958) anchored in
intellectuals of the Marxist tradition. Thus, it will seek to contribute academically to the study
of the relationship between theater and class struggle in Brazil, covering a period that extends
from 1950 to 1968, when Institutional Act 5 is established. The 1950s and 1960s, the artistic
scenario of this cut, but emphasizing the theater since it is where the research object is
located, and finally na interpretation of the play will be proposed. Sources include the play
itself, interviews with artists and intellectuals, and the play’s censorship document from 1968.
To conduct the interpretation, Iná Camargo’s concept of Epic Theater will be used; as
Antônio Gramsci’s concept of Organic Intellectual; Raymond Williams’ concept of Culture,
and Marcelo Ridenti’s concept of Culture.
