Abstract

The academic monitoring is an important, complementary and strategic area in the formation of undergraduates, which acts as a mediator and facilitator of the teaching and learning process and allows the development of new attitudes, skills and abilities. In the Agrarian Sciences courses, the Soil subjects have an important level of complexity, especially for beginners, which stimulates the presence of a monitor to help in the academic development. The present research aimed to report the importance of the Tutoring Programs and to verify the perception of the former students who participated in the tutoring of Soil subjects. The methodology consisted of a broad literature review addressing aspects pertinent to tutoring and was characterized as exploratory with a qualitative approach. For data collection we used a questionnaire created in Google Docs and later tabulated in Excel. The result of the literature review showed that the Tutoring Program is important for the Soil subjects, but the publications on the theme are still few. Regarding the perception study with the students, it was found that most of the participants are female 54.2% and the opportunity of a scholarship was the predominant interest for the monitoring program 54.2%, but that the participation in the monitoring program increased the interest for the area of soils to 41.7%. Regarding the contribution that the monitoring program offers to the students, 70.8% said that it contributes a lot to their learning in the discipline, 16.7% that it encourages their interest in the area, and 8.3% that it helps them organize practical activities. It is concluded that the importance of the monitoring program with an emphasis on Soils is necessary for personal and professional growth and development, as well as for decision making in the face of today's environmental challenges.
