Resumen:
Landslides or slope slides can be caused by human action, by a natural or anthropic
intervention, in turn, such landslides are results of slope instability, which can generate
risks to the safety of the population, material and environmental assets. Thus, this paper
aims to analyze the stability of a slope in the city of São Luís, MA, in order to propose two
different types of containment as a solution to slope instability. The analyses were
performed using the Generalized Limit Equilibrium (GLE) and Spencer methods. The study
area is characterized by its outcropping geology, represented by Creataceous, Tertiary
and Quaternary sediments. Therefore, from the data obtained it was possible to verify that
the slope has a safety factor lower than that indicated in the NBR 11682/2009 and it was
possible to propose a stapled soil and gabion wall system as a solution to instability.
Taking into account the slope stability analysis and the technical and economic feasibility
analysis performed, it was concluded that the FS found ranged from 1.551 to 1.619,
confirming the slope stability after the proposed solution. However, after the solutions were
quantified, the stapled soil was found to be the most technically and economically feasible
solution.
