Resumo:
The study was developed in the island of Asunción, state of Pernambuco, in the Northeast of Brazil, with the purpose of developing a methodology to characterize soils affected by salts. Two different conditions were selected for data collection: rainy season and dry season. Landsat-5 TM bands 1, 2 and 3 (visible), 4, 5 and 7 (reflected infrared) and 6 (thermal infrared) were used for the study. The work was done in the field and in the laboratory. In the field trenches were opened for soil description and soil samples were collected for the chemical and physical analyzes. Temperature and reflectance measurements were taken using the interactive image treatment system - SITIN 150. The main results of this work indicated that the dry season is the most appropriate to characterize the soils affected by salts, for facilitating their identification through LANDSAT images. The LANDSAT-5 (visible) and 5 (infrared) bands of the LANDSAT-5 TM for the rainy season and 2 (visible) and 5 (infrared) bands during the dry season were the most appropriate to identify the presence of soil affected by salts in the study area.
