Abstract:
The pandemic, caused by COVID-19, changed the way of
working, studying and carrying out common day-to-day
activities. In this scenario, the use of the Internet has
become an indispensable tool to reduce face-to-face
contact between people. However, access can be difficult
due to costs for installation and maintenance in regions far
from large centers. Small Internet Providers serve
customers from the most remote neighborhoods to the
countryside at more affordable prices. In this work, an
exploratory research was carried out that evaluated the
performance of Small Providers in the Malvinas
neighborhood in Campina Grande. Data was collected from
users and local providers, showing that users use the
services of local providers due to the quality and affordable
price. On the other hand, providers understand that they
serve mostly low-income people and seek to keep prices
affordable.
