Resumo:
Music is an art form and an instrument for expressing the culture
that emerged since the beginning of human history. Over time,
music evolved around the social contexts in which it was inserted,
playing an important role in the construction of identities in
society. Hip-hop is a cultural and artistic movement that emerged
in the midst of African-American communities in the United
States and has the rap music genre as one of its main pillars.
Conceived in Jamaica in the 60's, rap gained more strength from
the 70's onwards, mainly in the poor neighborhoods of big cities
and is currently one of the most listened to music genres around
the world. The objective of this work is to use Web Scraping to
generate a database of musical lyrics and, through the application
of concepts of Natural Language Processing and Exploratory Data
Analysis, extract information about the compositions of the some
of the most renowned North American artists in the genre seeking
to better understand the evolution of lyrics over time, identifying
which themes were most approached in each era and developing a
small interactive website to demonstrate the results found.
