Resumo:
The fibers located in waste mass at landfills are elements which exert an effect of
reinforcement to shear resistense and to traction resistense at waste mass, this characteristic is
known as fiber effect and represents the waste mass reinforcement matrix. In that regard, to
understand the shear resistense of Urban Solid Waste (USW) at landfills, it is essential to
consider the effect of fibrous materials reinforcement which composes the leavings. The
purpose of this work is to determine the fibers influency at shear resistense in equipments of
direct shearing in small dimensions. This research was developed in two steps, one step is
field survey with the topographical study and the gathering of USW newly grounded. In
second step, was performed the experiments in laboratory. The results of experiments to shear
resistense of waste indicated that the presence of fibers leads to an increase in cohesion and in
angle of wastes friction. However, when was rated the results of 7,5% and 15,0% of fibers,
occurs a growth in cohesion of 1,2% and a decrease of friction angle of 0,4% with the fibers
increase.
