Abstract:
Obstetric violence is a sad reality in the scenario of women's health in Brazil. It is a set of
abusive and negative acts that occur during prenatal care, childbirth and the postpartum
period, which directly affect the physical and emotional health of the pregnant woman and the
baby. Unfortunately, there is still a lack of awareness and efficient public policies to curb and
prevent obstetric violence. The objective was, therefore, to investigate from the study of art,
the scenario of obstetric violence in Brazil, the types of obstetric violence as well as the
professionals related to such practice. A narrative review of the literature was carried out,
based on available publications, articles published from 2017 to 2022, in Portuguese, English
and Spanish and, excluding incomplete texts, literature review, final papers. It was highlighted
that studies related to practices of obstetric violence occur more in public sectors, the most
recognized types of violence were the lack of dialogue between the health team and the
patient; denial of company, physical and verbal aggression, embarrassment and excess or lack
of medicalization and the most cited professionals were doctors and nurses. Through this
research, it was noticed that despite the scientific and political advances related to obstetric
care, the occurrence of obstetric violence is worrying. Denouncements and complaints related
to the acts are exposed daily. Therefore, it is essential that there is a more effective action on
the part of the responsible bodies, the continuity of non-governmental research to increase the
visibility of the problem. Keywords: Obstetric violence, panto; childbirth care; women's
rights.
