Abstract

The present work is a study about Railways of Northeast of Brazil, where a brief history is given of their initial installation, with in the framework of Railway System of Brazil and Federal Railway Systems, The study is based on the series of historical data from 1966 to 1985 collected from archieves of Annual Statistics of Transport, The proposal for its elaboration sprang from the question of Transnordestina project of Northeast and its viability for activation and construction of new Railways in the Region of Northeast. The projection of freight traffic on Regional railways is done at both aggregate and desaggregate level, The econometric technique of regression analysis has been intensively used to estimate freight for the horizon year.
