Resumo:
School cartography conveys academic and school knowledge, which in its constant
formation/updating process, investigates problematic issues, updates concepts and proposes
didactic referrals of contents, however, it is necessary to build a set of reflections that highlight
the possibilities of pedagogical practices in search for its meaning, observing the way of being
of society, school and Geography teaching in the construction of knowledge. In this sense, one
of the issues to be considered is the preparation of didactic materials that help teachers to work
with different graphic languages as an integral part of their pedagogical work. Based on these
questions, the objective of this work was to provide theoretical and methodological support to
elementary school (final years) and high school teachers to work with cartographic
representations of the municipality of Santa Helena-PB, and enable them to use the atlas school
in the classroom. For this, a municipal school atlas was prepared, with 11 chapters, the
methodology developed was based on a qualitative approach, with an exploratory, bibliographic
and documental character, dedicated to the study of the place. Georeferenced data from
shapefile files, statistical data from IBGE, official municipal documents, QGIS 3.22.4 software
and spreadsheets were used to create graphs and charts, as well as record photographs. The
result has theoretical-methodological material, taking into account History, Formation and
Location of Santa Helena-PB; 2. Urban and Rural Characterization of Santa Helena-PB; 3.
Natural frame; 4. Population and Society; 5. Districts of Santa Helena-PB; 6. Land use and
occupation; 7. Commerce and services; 8. Health; 9. Education; 10. Culture; 11. Leisure and
sport. In this way, the Atlas constitutes an important and enriching instrument for the teacher's
work in the classroom, it represents a didactic resource with cartographic, statistical and
geographic data of the municipality, contributing to the teaching-learning of students from a
local approach.
