Resumen:
The objective of this work is to analyze how elementary school students perceive and interpret the
environment through the design analysis. The sample included students from the 8th year of the State
School of Elementary and Secondary Education Professor José Gonçalves de Queiroz. The main
strategies used in the research were exercise-site visits to approach with the actors and the researched environment, lectures, educational games, dynamics, playing movies with themes geared to
environmental scale and practical field activities. After passed the information related to the
environment was put exercise to recant shaped design representation of the components of an
ecosystem. It was established for the analysis three categories - Category 1: Natural elements;
Category 2: built elements; Category 3: Other. The category of natural elements were present with a
significant percentage (48.39%) in relation to the ecosystem. Among the categories analyzed was
realized that in addition to the natural elements are the most common in the drawings, it can be
observed also that in them there is a greater detail since its composition is richer where teem-images
up to nine elements. In general, when talking about ecosystems is easier for students to describe biotic
characteristics, considering that most students did not show clearly who know what are the abiotic
components within a system.
