Resumo:
Healthcare-associated infection remains a major problem in
hospital environment, affecting about 5 to 10% of patients, with the hands of
health professionals one of the main routes of transmission, especially among
patients. Thus, proper hand hygiene is seen as the most
important strategy to prevent nosocomial infections, and it is necessary to evaluate
it to make it more effective. This present research aims to evaluate the practice of
hand hygiene among health professionals at the University Hospital
Alcides Carneiro – HUAC, as well as the type of technique most used in
sanitization of hands; to correlate the habit of hand hygiene and the moments
in which it is performed; verify the effectiveness of the media used for information and
evaluate the knowledge of the participants about the protocol on the correct
hand washing. It consisted of a cross-sectional and cross-sectional study with analysis of
data obtained by questionnaire, prepared by this team, delivered to
HUAC health professionals. Data were analyzed using the SPSS program.
version 20.0, with the numeric variables evaluated using the Student t test and the
categorical through the chi-square test. Of the 111 (48 men and 63 women)
interviewees, it was observed that women have greater adherence to
sanitization of hands; the technique with soap and water was the most used (98.2%); The
greater hygiene occurred before performing aseptic procedures and
cleaning (98.1%) and after risk exposure to body fluids (98.1%). You
professionals agree that the increase in alcohol dispensers and
information on hospital premises is required. hand hygiene
by HUAC health professionals has an excellent adherence, being
consistent with what the literature recommends.
