Resumo:
In this work, we propose a discussion to understand the transformations occurred in the Central Market of Cajazeiras (CMC) from the study of its socio-spatial organization. For this, we conducted a brief historical review of the emergence of the CMC and the development of the city’s commerce. Moreover, we built a semi-structured questionnaire which was used to interview traders who made themselves available to cooperated with this work. Considering the theoretical references and the reports of the traders interviewed, points out that, futhermore to its commercial function, a reform in the structure of the CMC would give back to the city of Cajazeiras a little of its history, because, as we will see throughout this work, the market is, for the local population, a cultural heritage, loaded with meaning for both memory and local history.
