Resumo:
The present work has as its main focus the discussion about the professional work of the Social Worker in contemporary times and the repercussions on the recognition of the profession. The study proposal is the result of questions experienced during the supervised internship process and in the research for the graduation TCC. The professional practice of the social worker is supported by the norms present in its Code of Ethics of 1993, in the Law that Regulates the profession, Law 8.662/93 and the Curriculum Guidelines of 1996. In this context, this work aims to study, from bibliographical form, the world of Social Service work, its socio-occupational spaces and the social determinants that permeate its performance. The method used
throughout this study was Marx's dialectical critic, as it seeks to understand reality in its essence, considering relations and historical determinations. Authors such as Barroco, Iamamoto and Netto were sources of bibliographical bases for carrying out this research. It was possible to perceive the urgent need to reaffirm the social worker's exclusive competences and attributions, as something fundamental to their professional practice, reaffirming them both for their users and for their employing institutions.
