Résumé:
Violence and crime have been growing more and more in contemporary times,
being an element present in Latin American countries. Homicide rates – one of
the main means of measuring the levels of violence in a given place – have
experienced an exponential increase in Brazil since the 1980s, with an increase
that exceeds what is considered acceptable in numbers of violent deaths.
intentional. Knowing that the concept of democracy has been related to several
elements other than electoral ones, the public security factor has commonly been
used to measure the levels of democratic quality in countries. Thus, the present
objective of the work is to think about the concept of democracy from the analysis
of perspectives related to public security and violence, in addition to reflecting on
homicides in Brazil and thinking about the thesis of interiorization in the scenario
of the Brazilian Northeast. For this, a methodology capable of achieving the
proposed objective was used, based on a descriptive, exploratory and
comparative study, based on theoreticalbibliographic
research, as well as
analysis of data collected on specific platforms on homicides and socioeconomic
information. As conclusions of the research, it is clear that the violence of a given
country is essential to think about the quality of democracy in that country, and
that, in Brazil, the increase in homicides carries a scenario of inheritance of
authoritarian elements experienced in other historical moments, and that from a
spatial point of view, intentional violent deaths migrate to the Northeast,
corroborating what is understood as the internalization of violence.
