Resumo:
One of the most necessary problems in the design of vertical silos is an accurate prediction
of the load distribution in its body, with special attention to the pressure exerted on the
walls due to the buoyancy of the stored product. The interaction of stored product and
silo structure is extremely important to verify the loads acting on the body and hopper of
the silo, as well as the product flow. The main objective of this research is a numerical
and experimental analysis of the mass flow and the unloading speed of the stored product.
From a numerical point of view, ANSYS 15.0 software was used, based on the Finite
Volume Method (FVM). The influence of the inserts in the solution of flow problems was
observed, with insert 2 in the second height analyzed. It promoted the best results for an
improvement in the flow pattern of the stored product. Treating the numerical model all
simulations dissipated mean error values lower than 15%, thus concluding that the
proposed model was consistent with the experimental model.
