Resumo:
The teaching process is becoming more and more challenging for professionals in the educational sector. Most students find themselves trapped in a virtual world, which makes delivering classes in the classroom even more difficult. This research has as main objective to investigate the Study of the Environment as an efficient methodology in the process of significant learning of the Urban Environmental Problems content in Geography classes, in the eighth grade class of the Matias Duarte Rolim school, located in the city of Cajazeiras, Paraíba. As specific objectives, it was intended to: implement a teaching method that actively involves students, making them protagonists of their own teaching and learning process; collaborate for a perception and analysis of the geographic space of the place; build reflections on urban environmental problems in the Remédios neighborhood, through the methodology of the Study of the Environment. For the development of this research, we opted for a methodological approach of mixed information, using quantitative and qualitative data to carry out our analyses. Based on these assumptions, the investigative nature of the following steps is assumed: bibliographical research; fieldwork; systematization and elaboration of the field script; conceptual class; field class; preparation of the field notebook and questionnaires. Despite most students in the class having a certain aversion to participating in active methodologies, the development of the research brought positive experiences. Students were primarily responsible for their own teaching and learning process, when they explained the problems in their neighborhood, sought information, criticized the inconsistent attitudes of the population, thus, we were able to positively implement an active methodology.
